Today I am sharing my recipe for the clear liquid stage...

Which is the first week of eating after you have had your surgery for a Gastric Sleeve.

  • 2 fresh chicken breasts
  • 2 carrots washed and peeled
  • 1 medium onion


Take the 2 fresh chicken breasts
Place them in a large saucepan filled with cold water.
Add the 2 peeled whole carrots.
Add 1 medium size peeled onion and cut in half.
Bring to the boil.
Then turn down the heat and let simmer for 20-30 minutes.

Turn off the heat.
Remove the pan.
Strain the liquid into a bowl and cover lightly to let it cool.

Keep the remaining chicken breasts and whole carrots and the 2 Halves of the onion.
You are going to reuse these.
Take half the boiled cooled chicken broth and pour it into very small containers, such as the size of small plastic yoghurt pots.

Fill two thirds full and place on a baking sheet which is covered with greaseproof paper.
Now freeze once frozen in yoghurt pots you can remove the baking sheet.

Now use the other half of the boiled cooled chicken water and add the chicken breasts and the whole carrots and the onion.
Use a blender to blend all of the ingredients together and whizz them all up until you have a thick full liquid consistency. If you need to make it thinner add some water to thin it out.

Now pour into small pots or a zip style freezer bags.
Freeze them and you have your first week clear liquids.
Plus your full liquids for the second week of your recovery.

Freeze Tiny amounts as you can always get another one out if you feel you need to.

It's then easy to reheat and enjoy your chicken water.
Preparation is the key to being successful.

Final thoughts

I would add that the main reason you need this stage is so that your surgery has the chance to heal. Think about your tummy healing after the dramatic change it has had done to it. This 4-week stage that you follow is to allow the surgery on the stomach to heal and to feed you.

Please note that this is part of the healing process and it's temporary. Soon enough you will enjoy all of the benefits of eating food.
